What a commissioner is entitled to expect
Our properties are ring-fenced shared or single-occupancy supported accommodation, held to the standards set out in the Supported Accommodation (England) Regulations 2023.
Safe and suitable
Accommodation is designed and maintained in line with Regulation 6 of the Supported Accommodation (England) Regulations 2023, so that it is safe, suitable and appropriate for the needs of children.
A private bedroom
Every young person has their own private bedroom, appropriately furnished and maintained to ensure privacy, dignity and personal space.
Shared communal spaces
In ring-fenced shared arrangements, the kitchen and living room are of sufficient size and quality to support daily living and the development of independent living skills. Bathrooms and shared facilities are suitable for the number of residents.
Suitable locations
Properties sit in established residential areas, positioned so young people can reach local services, education, healthcare, public transport and community amenities.
Comfortable to live in
Heating is maintained so the temperature stays above the minimum health and safety requirement of 16 degrees Celsius, and the environment is welcoming and homely rather than institutional.
Well maintained
Arrangements are in place for health and safety, risk management and ongoing maintenance. Damage is reported immediately, and repairs and property inspections are handled through set procedures with recorded checks.
Fire safety
A comprehensive fire and evacuation procedure covers individual responsibilities and assembly points. A full fire drill takes place at least once every six months with all staff and young people. Fire exits are signed, drill notices displayed, and smoking is prohibited in bedrooms and communal areas.
Security
Young people are supported to keep room doors locked when unattended and external doors closed. CCTV is installed in some shared and floating support homes; social workers are informed before placement and written information is included in the Licence Agreement.
Cleaning standards
Bedrooms are kept clean, safe and hygienic, shared areas tidy and respected by everyone, and bathrooms maintained in a clean and safe condition. Cleaning equipment is supplied and young people are supported to take responsibility for household tasks.
Move in, and it is already there
Every property is supplied with the basics of running a home, so a young person is not arriving to an empty room and a list of things to buy.
- Bed, mattress protector, duvet, pillows, duvet set and sheet
- Wardrobe, chest of drawers and hangers
- Kettle, toaster, microwave, pots, baking tray and utensils
- Cutlery and crockery: plate, bowl, mug and glass
- Washing machine, clothes airer and tea towel
- Hoover, mop and bucket, dustpan and brush, cleaning sprays
- Bath and hand towels, face cloth, toilet brush and toilet roll
- Toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant and shower gel
