Young Person's Guide

Everything you need to know when you move in.

Every young person who comes to live with us is given a Young Person's Guide. It explains your rights, what is expected of you, the support you can expect, how to raise a concern, and who to contact.

The full Young Person's Guide

This page explains what the guide covers. The guide itself is not published for download from this website.

Every young person receives their own copy as part of moving in, and social workers, Leaving Care Teams and family members can be sent one before a placement.

To request a copy, email info@guidedheightscare.co.uk or call 020 8013 5436.

What It Explains

Six things the guide covers

You are given a copy as part of moving in, and it is yours to keep.

Your rights

What you are entitled to while you are living with us, and how those rights are protected.

Your responsibilities

What is expected of you, including the house rules that are explained during your induction and form part of your Licence Agreement.

Support arrangements

Who your Key Worker is, what support is available, and how your support plan works.

How to complain

How to raise a concern or make a complaint, and the reassurance that doing so will not count against you.

Safeguarding information

How we keep you safe, and what to do if you are worried about your own safety or someone else's.

Key contacts

Who to speak to, and how to reach them.

If You Are Moving In

What you can expect from us

Written for you rather than for a commissioner. These are things our Statement of Purpose commits us to.

You can look before you decide

Wherever it is practical and safe, you can visit before you move in, meet the staff, see your room, meet other residents and ask whatever you want to ask.

Your own room

You get your own private bedroom, furnished and looked after, so you have privacy and your own space.

A say in how the house runs

House meetings happen every month. You can raise anything about the house, how it works or other residents, and suggest changes. One of the young people takes the notes.

The right to disagree

If you think a rule is unfair, say so, to your Key Worker, a Support Worker or the Registered Service Manager. You can raise concerns or complain without it being held against you.

Honesty about confidentiality

You can ask to talk to a staff member privately. We will not pretend to keep secrets: if something affects your safety we may need to share it with the staff team and, if necessary, your social worker.

Real preparation for moving on

You will build a life and social skills checklist with your Key Worker, covering money, cooking, laundry, travel, appointments, work and college, at the pace that makes sense for you.
